Travel Plan
We left Lima very early to the east, to San Mateo, a town on the road that connects the center of Peru with the jungle. There we have breakfast and then we continue to Río Blanco, where we take a path that takes us to Lake Yuracmayo, where we will camp.
Trekking to the Morrena del Monte Sullcón Camp, at 4900m. There we camp, enjoying beautiful views of Mount PAca (5530m). 4 hours, 600m ascent.
After a good breakfast we begin our first ascent to Mount Sullcón, crossing its snowy slopes, and a 40° long glacier journey. We will enjoy a fantastic view from the summit of Nevado Paca, Tatajaico and Vicuñita. Then we go down to the camp. 8 hours.
Leaving at 8 AM from Río Blanco we head southeast towards the Ocsahualca pass, at 4900m. Here we can see vicuñas, partridges and Huachuas (Andean geese). Enjoying the views of Nevado Vicuñita, Paccha Esquina and Harrarayoc, we arrive at Paccha Camp, at 4535m, after 2 hours of travel.
The ascent continues to the right through a moraine taking the path of the vicuñas as a reference. We find limestone plates that mark the beginning of the glacier. Then we take the right that leads to the summit from the northwest, with slopes of 30° to 45°. From the top we appreciate a magnificent 360° view. Back to camp.
Our last Summit is Nevado Paccha Esquina, an easy Summit with no technical difficulty. We will not find glaciers, but maybe snow. We go up the north face, and from the summit we can appreciate the Vicuñita, Suiricochas and Harrarayoc peaks.
After a very good breakfast we set up our camp and return to Yuracmayo, observing for the last time the coronamic mountains, and then to San Mateo and Lima. 6 hours of travel and end of the expedition.
