Huayhuash Alpine Circuit 15 Days
A spectacular route. The Alta Vía de Huayhuash tries to embrace the mountains from very close, leaving your mouth open with its spectacular views along the entire route. Impressive glaciers falling from the huge pyramids with crunching sounds into the blue waters of lakes in the grazing valleys. Doing the Alta Vía is immersing yourself in the heart of the Cordillera Huayhuash, it is getting to know the true west face of Siulá Grande up close. During this trekking, the beauty of the mountains, the majestic and delicate flight of the Andean Condor makes the hearts of visitors flutter.

The Alta Vía Huayhuash always remains very close to the mountains on the western slope of the Cordillera, offering the most exceptional views.
The Alta Vía Huayhuash compromises two high passes with glacier with steep terrain where sometimes it is necessary to find the way. While normal trekking only involves following simple trails.

Descenso al borde sur de la laguna Mitucocha para remontar hacia la laguna de Alcay (4850) luego un último ascenso en dirección al paso Chaclán 4900 m donde nos espera un espectáculo de pintura debajo de los Yerupajá y los Jirishancas, Siula Grande con las terrasas de lagos el Gangrajanca, Siulacocha y Quesillococha. Campamento en espléndida laguna de Carhuacocha (4138m).

Por valles elevados diseminados de lagunas de colores turquesas, con vistas impresionantes del Siulá y el Yerupajá. Nosotros atravesamos el col de Siula Punta 4830 m. Nosotros ganamos los valles altos de Huayhuash (4400 m).
Route to Chiquian, the gateway to this magnificent Cordillera Huayhuash, the second highest mountain range in Peru. We continue towards Rondoy (4100 m) where we set up our first camp.
Ascend through the Rondoy Valley in the direction of the Garacocha lagoon 4500 m. An inconspicuous path leads us to the southern side of the Garacocha lagoon, with a splendid view. We continue our trek to the edge of the lagoon and then continue our ascent towards the col through the folded slopes of calcareous rock. A limestone tower of about 100 meters indicates the Gara pass 4900m. The pass is the continental watershed. From the Gasha Pass there is no visible path, however it is easy to find.
Descent to the southern edge of the Mitucocha lagoon to go up towards the Alcay lagoon (4850) then a last ascent towards the Chaclán pass 4900 m where a spectacle of painting awaits us under the Yerupajá and the Jirishancas, Siula Grande with the terraces of lakes the Gangrajanca, Siulacocha and Quesillococha. Camp in the splendid lagoon of Carhuacocha (4138m).
Camp setup.
Through high valleys scattered with turquoise lagoons, with impressive views of Siulá and Yerupajá. We cross the col de Siula Punta 4830 m. We won the high valleys of Huayhuash (4400 m).
Short day leaving Huayhuash taking the fork to the west of the path that leads to the Portachuelo pass. We continue next to the snow-capped Trapecio, after a slight ascent after the Barroso Cocha lagoon we set up camp. About 3 hours of walking. In the afternoon preparation of logistics and equipment for the 03 days of trekking in autonomy.
We continue through the high valleys to reach the Trapecio col (5,000 m), from where we have a beautiful view of the snow-capped peaks of Puscanturpas (5,400 m), Carnicero 5,900 m. Descent through the Jurau glacier at 4900 m. We pass by the Juraucocha lagoon with its turquoise colors. We set up our camp near the Sarapococha plain.
Very early we begin the ascent towards the Mirador hill (51590 m), where the best view of the east face of Siulá Grande is considered. The beauty of Siulá (6,300 m), Sarapo (6,000 m), Yerupajá (6,634 m) and Rasac 6,000 m, seen from this natural balcony. Descent towards the Segya Valley. Camp near Segya Lagoon 4550.
We head towards the Rasac moraine, to then start the most technical section of the circuit. We put on our crampons to cross the Rasac glacier pass (5120 m). Splendid of the main seil thousand of the mountain range. Descent towards the Rasaccocha lagoon and camp next to the Jahuacocha lagoon 4050 m.
Ascent towards the Pampa Llamac pass (4300 m). A pleasant path that goes up the side of the mountain and leads us to Llamac (3300 m), then return to Huaraz by bus.
